Just wanted to say...

that I am not reading Harry Potter, unlike the rest of you.

Well, I'm not reading it right now. I feel quite certain that most of the people I know are reading it right now, at this very moment, and are nearly done with it, if not done already.

I will read it eventually but just not at the moment.

Theric ran out and bought our copy this morning and I actually read two pages, but no more. My right arm was assisting in the nursing of my baby so the left arm had to hold that tome all on it's own and it got tired, so I put Harry down.

I just am not that excited about it.

What I am excited about is the most recent issue of Wired magazine, which the postman delivered today.

It's got Martha Stewart on the cover!!!!!! And she's decorating a Wii cake!!

My two favorite periodicals have joined hands, if only for a brief moment.

It's a good thing.

zzzzzz

***
Big O what did you dream about during your nap?

The baby.

What were you doing with the baby?

Giving it hugs and kisses.

Did you dream about anything else?

Bunnies.

What were they doing

Jumping.

Were you jumping with them?

No. The bunnies were soft.

Aren't small children's dream sweet.

I dreamt about dropping my baby.

Please don't hate me, but...

guess what!?

I can fit back into my pre-pregnancy jeans!

It's only been three weeks since I gave birth!

Trust me, I'm as shocked as you are.

The Garden of Thteed

Below you will find some lovely photos of our garden and our Earthboxes. As you can see, everything appears to be doing well--the garden has even begun to take over the driveway. This has intimidated our car, the Lapper, and instead of parking near the garage, it is just barely creeping onto the driveway at all. We are also excited to witness the emergence of actual vegetables. We've been getting a couple strawberries most days this week. We picked our first zucchini today with about five more in line for sometime this week. Our first tomatoes are coming fast, and every meal is accented with fresh basil or cilantro! Not bad for planting everything later than we'd intended.

Behold! The Thteed Garden of Plenty!

Tomatoes as tall as a human female!

How in the world are we going to eat all this---?????

July 3, 2007

In my arms I hold two things, both of which came out of me (not the plastic container, but what's inside it) (not the jumper, but what's inside it). Today we buried one and reaffirmed our decision to keep the other.

The other, after all, is so much cuter than what's in the plastic container; it really wasn't that hard a choice.

If you haven't guessed by now, that thing in the plastic container is my and the Littlest Thteed's, placenta.

Yup, you heard me right. That bloody thing in there is what he lived in inside my uterus. And since his birth, it (the placenta) has been residing in that plastic container in our fridge. Much to the chagrin of my mother who has been staying with us. "Ahck! What are you going to do with this!?"

Which is a reasonable question and a question I asked myself when my midwife asked me if we would like to keep it and take it home. I did not expect to be asked this. I did not get asked this with the Big O, but that was probably because he was a C-section and that placenta was completed depleted. The doctor described it as having grey hairs and being the oldest placenta he had ever seen. Theric says it was green, like undyed meat left in the butcher's display for too many weeks. Ew.

When she asked me if I wanted it, I, not having thought about it prior, said yes. So they packaged it up and after it hung around on the floor of my recovery room for about 15 hours, Theric took it home and put it in the fridge. Where it has been for the past two weeks.

I decided against making placenta stew or a placenta cocktail. Instead I decided to put it in the garden and plant a rose on top of it. Mentioning this to my midwife, she advised us to be sure to put it in a hole at least two feet deep to keep animals like dogs, cats and raccoons, from trying to dig it up and eat it--yhuck! I began to wonder if I really wanted to take it home.

Today Theric dug the hole and we planted the placenta. On top of that went the white Iceberg climbing rose my mother bought, which I am sure she did to expedite the placenta's removal from our fridge. All this was done in honor of the Littlest Thteed. Part of he and me is in the ground, in our yard, providing nutrients to a plant.

Welcome to earth little guy.

You can go over to Theric's blog for some footage of the event. Be warned: It's gruesome.

Two Weeks

The smallest Jepson is now two weeks old. He doesn't do much but sleep and eat. And, mostly, it's sleeping that he likes the best. Proving that he is indeed Theric's offspring.

He had his two-week, well-child checkup today. He now weighs 8lbs. 12 oz and is still 21.5" long. Way to go! That extra pound explains the constant eating and sleeping. Pack on those pounds little guy!

He's very squeaky and hiccuppy. He's not noisy generally but is a very noisy eater--you'd think there was some sort of wild animal nursing at my breast and not a sweet little baby.

He reached an important landmark this afternoon: The Poop-All-Over-Mommy Milestone. It was surprising to me, and very messy, but he definitely knew what he was doing. First, while I was changing him, he peed all over his clothes. Then, when I turned to grab a wipe, he made a horrible sound; I turned just in time to see a rainbow of poop turn into a pot of gold all down my pant leg. Good job, son! (And hopefully my clothes will be all right.)

Sadly I had to trim his beautiful fingernails last week. I was afraid he would scratch himself with those manicured lovelys. You know, like he'd scratched me.

At this time we have yet to come up with a blognym for him. We're working on that. In the meantime here are some pictures:
