No Photo Documentation

Our little point and shoot digital camera died a few weeks ago. I knew this would happen eventually but failed to make good preparation for this event. This camera was given to us by our neighbors when they got a new one. Prior to this we had had one other incredibly cheap, barely usable, digital camera, the one given to us was a HUGE upgrade. From it we discovered the joy of digital cameras. So to now be without one is pretty sad.

I am hoping that you, dear reader, can offer me some advice on what new camera to purchase. I would like to get a Nikon CoolPix, as that is what the last camera was and we were very pleased with it, but, have you seen how many of those CoolPix cameras there are?! Way too many to make it an easy choice. So if anyone out there has some recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Garden Massacres

They have got me down.

I planted four zucchini plants, three are left. Planted four cucumber plants, one is left, and it does not appear to be doing well. Planted two pumpkin plants, zero left.

But it doesn't stop there, oh no. This is the worst: I planted nine yellow squash plants, nine! And now, now, I have zero. Zero!!!!!!! ARRRGGHHHH!!!!

I started all of these plants from seed, and loving nurtured them on my kitchen window sill until I felt they were ready to go out into the garden. Little did I know that I would be sending them to their deaths.

I am quite certain all the blame should be placed on snails.

Snails, I hate you.

Can you believe that!? There are people out there that think Mormons inventend Wingdings?!! If there are poeple out there that believe that, I am truly perplexed and worried about what else people might believe about Mormons.

In case you didn't read the comments on that blog I'll let you know that the questioner probably got Wingdings mixed up with the Deseret Alphabet--which Mormons did invent. I wrote a research paper on the Deseret Alphabet back in college and also worked as a research assistant for a professor that was studying the Deseret Alphabet. It was really interesting. And while I never really learned how to read Deseret fluently, I did learn enough to transcribe quite a few letters written by the early Saints to Brigham Young.

In the end the Deseret Alphabet was abandoned. Which, I think was best and inevitable. From a typographical standpoint the letterforms themselves had many problems that made them difficult to learn and become comfortable with. Despite Brigham Young's efforts, we Mormons read and write in the language with which we are most familiar. For me, that'd be English.
Though I do happen to think the Deseret Alphabet is pretty cool looking, much cooler than Wingdings.
