We Are Simple People

That's what Theric said when I pointed out to him how excited we both were about the new recycling program--reading that flier was the most excited I got all day. Maybe all week.

We recycle. A lot. We have piles of to-be-recycleds all over the house. Currently, we have pick-up for certain types only--and we have to separate papers products from everything else, and then put everything into separate bins. We usually fill both our bins every week. The paper bin in particular is nearly always filled to capacity. Every week I marvel at the amount of paper we're recycling--it's just crazy. Where does it all come from? But now, now we will have one large bin (with wheels!) in which to dump all our recyclables! I wonder if we will fill it every week, too...?

The best thing about this new program? We can recycle more types of stuff. The most exciting addition? Plastic bags! Woohoo!! We try to not get plastic bags and to use canvas shopping bags, but we still end up with plenty of filmy plastic bags (from bread, for instance). They have taken over the pantry. I am thrilled that I will now be able to put them straight into my own recycling bin instead of trying, week after week, to remember to bring them down to the grocery-store plastic-bag recycling station.

Yes, to us Thteeds this recycling revolution is a purty danged exciting event. I guess we are just simple people.

That is good news.

We have the "dump it all in one" recycling and it's just so easy. One can for all recycling. One for all trash. There's just no reason to not recycle when it's that easy!

'Spoza and I were very excited as well. I almost threw out the flyer before reading it, since we get so much useless junk mail. This was the exact opposite of useless. =)

In SF grocery stores no longer give out plastic bags, which is awesome, and I always forget that not everywhere does it.
We have the one bin recycling. We also now have compost. We have very little trash anymore.

Albany has had the all-in-one can recycling for awhile. We fill ours up every week. We also have a big wheeled can that combines yard waste, food scraps, and paper products with food on it (like pizza boxes).
